Museum Detox Champion: Shaz Hussain

Shaz is an Assistant Curator at the Science Museum and independent consultant working towards the better representation of people of colour in the arts and heritage sector. Shaz is also the instigator of the White Privilege Clinic.


After completing her degree in Literature and History at UEA Shaz began working as a freelance art teacher whilst establishing a new arts festival in West London. She went on to do a Collections Management traineeship at Norfolk Museums Service where she worked on improving access to the collections. Shaz has also worked at the Royal Air Force Museum as a Collections Assistant and at the Design Museum as a Visitor Experience Assistant.


Shaz joined Museum Detox in 2017 for support and solidarity. Since then she has benefited from mentoring and opportunities to speak at conferences and events advocating for the network. Shaz hopes to support other emerging professionals within Museum Detox through skill sharing and CPD drawing on the wide ranging expertise within the network.
